July 3rd from 10 AM to 1 PM

The US 1 and 312 Area Business Council of the St. Johns County Chamber of Comerce is pleased to announce that the Inaugural “Walk for our Troops” Festival was a success.

On July 3rd 2010,we all came together as Americans and took some time off to celebrate. Several hundred people came together for a patriotic event to raise money for care packages that will be sent to our active St. Johns County service  men and women.  The Council worked in conjunction with the St. Augustine Shores Service Corporation and held on the grounds of the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club.

Success:

Over $1,100 was raised on this day and 12 units of blood were given according to Jerry McKinney of the Blood Alliance. Sponsorship money was also raised prior to the event.

The Event:

Kicked off by the presentation of Colors by the local Marines, the crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem (led by Commissioner Ray Quinn and Showtime USA respectively). A live feed by WFOY provided all of St. Johns County with an ear to the event. Showtime USA snag more patriotic songs as did local resident Andrea Marquis. The St. Augustine Cruisers brought their antique cars in and there was also a Hummer courtesy of the local National Guard. There was a demonstration by the kids of North Florida Martial Arts (thanks Mark) and more music by the pool courtesy of Antique Roadshow (thanks Dave and Jesse and the gang).

The highlight of the morning event was a presentation by our US 1 and 312 Council’s Matt Lahti of a care package to a local soldier and his family. He had just returned from service the week prior. The afternoon event was accented by free food and drink , slides and bouncy house and more for the kids and finally a presentation by BenFranklin in the Clubhouse.

We all are truly grateful to our troops for their sacrifices made every day. The US 1 and 312 Business Council also extends a warm and heartfelt debt of gratitude to everyone who helped make this event successful.
